Features
Custom Pump
Only the FAWSsit™ Fold Away Wheelchair Showers are patented and hold Underwriter Laboratories (UL) certification for safety of their custom pump. This means that the risks of electrocution from pumps that are left on the floor or left free standing from the unit, or not tested and approved for safety are not a problem for the FAWSsit™.
Only the FAWSsit™ showers have custom-designed, frame-mounted pumps designed specifically to remove water from the waste pan as fast as it runs into the shower. Residual water is not an issue with the FAWSsit™. The pump runs while the shower is going on, then as soon as the shower is completed, the person can be rolled right out of the unit so they can get dried off and dressed without having to wait for a drain pan to empty.
Because UL requires both a Ground Fault Interrupt (GFI) plug and a full 11 feet of cord, there is no concern for the cord or the plug being exposed to water, as there is with “off the shelf” pump systems.
The pump comes with a standard full one year warranty, which can be extended for an additional year for a small fee.
Shower Frame
The frame system for the FAWSsit™ showers is the top quality in the industry and represents another significant safety feature.
FAWSsit™ showers come completely assembled, so no tools are required. And, because the frames are constructed of anodized aluminum with marine-grade stainless steel connectors which are riveted and reinforced with strong corner gussets, these frames come with a full 10 year warranty. There are no screws to come loose or to work out of frames as occurs with PVC. And even though the FAWSsit frame is not intended to support lifting, in the event of a person leaning or pulling on the frame, it will not shatter or break like PVC.
With the unique, patented, folding frame design, only the FAWSsit™ requires NO CONSTRUCTION or assembly, and can be folded flat to only 8 inches for the Standard model for easy storage after each use.
Shower Head & Hoses
The shower head attachment and waste water return hoses come standard with a minimum of 10 feet of length to accommodate full body access, and plenty of hose length between the sink and the FAWSsit™ shower unit. No splicing or hose extensions are needed and it can either be frame mounted or hand-held for complete water access for bathing. If a client has a special requirement for longer hoses, the FAWSsit™ Portable Shower company will provide these for the client at no extra charge when the unit is purchased.
And only the FAWSsit™ showers provide for both hands-free and hand-held shower heads. For the individual capable of doing independent showering, a custom clip-on shower head arm holds the shower head in place on the frame, so that both hands can be free for shampooing or other showering activities. But if access to other body parts is difficult with a mounted shower head, the shower arm or just the shower head and hose can be easily removed from the frame so full body access can be accomplished without requiring any lifting or transferring or moving from the wheelchair.
Water temperature and flow can also be easily and safely controlled from the sink faucet. Only FAWSsit™ showers come standard with the most adaptable faucet connector which usually requires no adaptor for a faucet. In most cases where oversized faucets are in use, the adaptor which is shipped with all FAWSsit™ showers will enable easy attachment.
No plumber is required to set up or use a FAWSsit™ shower!
Shower Pan
The water collection pan is made of a triple layer vinyl and fiberglass mesh with an imbedded foam wedge to ensure that there are no leaks, and no water escapes the pan when the shower is completed. The pan is also germicide-imbedded to prevent mildew, and it comes with simple-to-use Velcro straps to hold the pan in place with the frame to ensure that no water leaks occur from the pan. Along with the custom-designed, self-priming pump which can run wet or dry during the showering procedure, there is virtually no water build-up in the pan.
Shower Curtains
The shower curtains, too, are a heavy weight, germicide-imbedded vinyl which will last for years. These curtains are grommet-reinforced and can be easily removed and washed in a washing machine for continued long-term use. Replacement curtains are available, but FAWSsit™ curtains are in use by clients who have used their showers for over 7 years!
Made in the USA
The FAWSsit™ Fold Away Wheelchair Showers are proud to fully comply with the U. S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requirements for “Made in the USA”.
Per their website, “The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is charged with preventing deception and unfairness in the marketplace. The FTC Act gives the Commission the power to bring law enforcement actions against false or misleading claims that a product is of U. S. origin.”
Unfortunately, many companies still claim to be in compliance when in fact many of their components are not made in our country; but the FAWSsit™ has made a concerted effort to ensure that its components and assembly are all fully in compliance with this legal requirement.
And, the FAWSsit™ Portable Shower company is a U. S. Veteran-owned business. As a service-connected disabled veteran, the owner of the FAWSsit™ Portable Showers takes special pride in providing the highest quality showering solution for not only his fellow veterans, but also for any senior or person with disabilities. His service to the United States of America has made him particularly focused on providing a fully compliant “Made in the USA” product, unlike companies who may use multiple “off-shore” elements or assembly organizations who attempt to plagiarize the “Made in the USA” status.
Operation & Maintenance
The FAWSsit™ Fold Away Wheelchair Showers require very little maintenance; however there are a few simple tasks which will keep the unit trouble free.
- Dry off the curtains before storing
The shower curtains are made of vinyl which is imbedded with a germicide to resist mildew. We recommend using a small washrag or towel to remove the water droplets which remain after the shower is complete to reduce the chance of mildew or mold forming. - Empty and clean the drain pan after each use
When the shower is complete, remove any remaining water in the drain pan by lifting the front of the drain pan to direct the water toward the filter bag at the rear of the pan so that the water can be sucked out by the pump. If there is any waste product, such as hair or residue, on the filter mesh, remove that with tissue and dispose. Then use a small rag or towel to wipe any remaining water droplets. The mesh filter over the suction hose is in place to keep hair or other objects from entering the pump. For this reason, when suctioning the water from the pan, be sure to leave the suction hose INSIDE the mesh filter. - Flatten the pans and curtain when folding to prevent kinks or pinching of the pan or curtains.
Sides of the shower pan will fold in as the pan is lifted and attached to the back of the shower frame with the Velcro® strip. Ensuring that these sides are flat will make closing the frame easier and will protect the pan. The curtains should hang straight without kinks when the shower stall is closed for storage. This will help protect the curtain from damage and from potential mildew formation. - Store power cord in hanging bag or clean, dry area so that it does not get wet
- Rinse the shower system with a disinfectant at least once a month.
To ensure that the entire shower system remains clean, pour approximately two gallons of hot water mixed with one cup of chlorine bleach into the drain pan of the FAWSsit shower. Use this solution with a cleaning rag to wipe down the frame and curtains of the shower stall. Then slosh the bleach solution around inside the waste water pan to make sure that all of the surface inside the pan is exposed to the bleach solution. Then start the pump and run the cleaning solution out through the pump and down the drain. This will make sure that all of the drain hoses as well as the pump are cleaned of germs or mildew. - Turn off the pump when the shower is not in use.
Although the FAWSsit waste water removal pump is designed to run without a continuous flow of water, it is best to turn it off when there is no water running or water to pump out of the drain pan. When a shower is completed, it is safe to leave the pump running for a few minutes to remove any residual water, but it is suggested that the pump not be left running for extended periods of time once the water has been removed. - Place towels on the floor outside of the shower stall
The FAWSsit portable shower stall is designed for use in any room, and is designed to keep the water contained in the unit until it is pumped out and disposed of properly. However, if the shower head is not aimed inside the shower unit, overspray accidents can happen. And, wheelchair wheels can hold a little water from the showering. If they are not dried off before the wheelchair is rolled out of the unit, there can be some water tracks from the water that remains on the wheels. To prevent any floor damage, or slipping potential, place towels or a mat around and in front of the shower. If any overspray or retained water on the wheels gets outside the shower stall, it will much easier to clean up with the towels or mats already in place. - Call us if you have questions or concerns about the maintenance or operation of your FAWSsit portable shower.
The FAWSsit Fold Away Wheelchair Shower is designed to be easy and safe to use as well as easy and safe to maintain. With the use of these basic tips and precautions, potential problems can be avoided.
