We’ve all experienced plateaus in life when things got flat and lost their sizzle. Maybe the winter blues brought it on, or sudden bad news reached our ears and hurt our heart. Whatever may have triggered a sense of unhappiness, know there are some very practical steps we can take today to get our mojo back!
What can we do to feel better and healthier?
Action Steps That Help Keep Us in the Fight
Beginning the day with the right attitude can make all the difference in the world. When we bring something to mind that we can be grateful for, it will help us to recognize other acts of kindness that may have gone unnoticed.
Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

1. Eat Fresh Fruit
What’s the first food we should put in your mouth each day? Eating fresh fruit first thing in the morning provides energy, focus and helps to detox the system.
Stretching is also a great way to warm up the muscles for whatever the day may hold. Not taking the time to do that can make even the simple activities a bit more challenging. Here are some daily stretches for seniors that may enhance strength and muscle control.
2. Drink More Water
Since our bodies are 60 % water it only makes sense that we will suffer if our levels decrease. Often times a simple headache is caused by not drinking enough water. Instead of grabbing aspirin, perhaps we should grab a glass! So, how much water is enough? Experts tell us that we should drink half our body weight in ounces each day minimum!
So, if we weigh 100 lbs., our body needs at least 50 ounces of water every day! Drinking a large glass of water before our morning coffee with hydrate the organs and get all systems ready for the day. It’s good to remember that caffeine dehydrates us, so counteracting that effect is to our own benefit.
3. Absorb More Vitamin D
Newborn babies and older adults often times share a common dilemma; they are indoors too much! New moms want to protect their infant and tend to keep them in the house 24/7. But even babies get cranky and just taking them outside for a bit can change their tune instantly!
As we get older, we can settle into routines that don’t always serve us well. Our bodies need fresh air and sunshine. When we lack vitamin D some of the symptoms that surface may be fatigue, frequent illnesses, depression, lower back ache, discomfort in legs or joints. Learn more here.
4. Keep on Dancing
People have been dancing for thousands of years! We relate it to times of celebration or victory, but what if dance could play a role in healing? There is a doctor in Orange County, CA who sees some pretty traumatic cases. He has tapped into dance as a power source of joy to help his patients work through the suffering and come out feeling better about life! I think we all have something to learn from the Dancing Doctor.
5. Download the Essentials
What we listen to can affect our emotional health. We all know that negative news is the news that sells, so why not change things up a bit? Instead of feasting on negativity, download some free audio books or podcasts that will encourage us and lift our spirits?
When we find ourselves in a funk, it’s good to remember that we don’t need to stay there. We can select healthier options that will elevate us, or we can stay stuck in the mud and grow weary. So why not strive and take steps to feel better today? Those who care about you want to see you thrive! Sometimes it’s the little decisions we make that have the biggest impact on our lives and those around us.
